Marc de Clarq

Who the f... is

Marc de Clarq?

My name is Marc de Clarq, but my real name is Markus Siewert and I have been making music since I was 7. Until my voice broke, I sang as the "2nd soprano" in the boys' choir of the Suhl Philharmonic, also as a soloist. At 14, I taught myself a few chords on my brother's guitar and with 3-4 simple chords I had written my first songs. At 17, I performed with it for the first time and at 18, I won 2nd prize at the national pop and hit festival "Goldener Rathausmann" in Dresden, with two of these songs. After that, I was able to work (albeit only for a short time) with Arnold Fritzsch, the most famous GDR pop producer at the time. This led to my first video productions and TV appearances. As a singer and author of the pop project "Speed" with keyboardist Serjoscha Stüven, I then conquered the top spots in the charts several times... albeit only in the GDR charts... followed by even more TV appearances. However, my work was then restricted more and more. And when the only record company in the country, "AMIGA", refused to work with me, I applied for expatriation, which was granted on the morning of November 9, 1989, the day the Berlin Wall fell.
In the "crazy west" I conquered the big and small dance floors and techno basements of Berlin and Germany, first as a guest and later as an act, and "Marc de Clarq" was born.
Together with DJ MO and the cult label LowSpirit / BMG Berlin / Sony Music, I then achieved regular placements in national and international dance charts.
I also had successful releases on VANDIT, the label of star DJ Paul van Dyk, which I am quite proud of!

What am I doing today?

Between 2018 and 2022 I tried to make good German pop (German hits) with my first producer in "West Berlin", Axel Wilhelm. Modern dance sounds, with German and easy-to-understand lyrics. Actually, like before with "Speed", only a little better... But working towards success was exhausting, the dependence on editors, record bosses and people who know everything better really annoyed me. Despite this, I worked together and released music with the Swiss label "Zoom-Music".

Music has to be fun, it has to be fun for ME and first of all I have to believe in it 100 percent! If that's not the case, there's no point! Bending myself, constantly reinventing myself and trying things out until someone finally likes it and "makes you big" is not my thing at all (anymore)!

So now I make music when I enjoy it and when I feel like it! And if someone likes it, PERFECT! And if not? Then just not! Despite that, the world is okay for me, because I don't have to prove anything to anyone anymore, except to myself..., maybe...

...and so I'm currently working on very classic soundtracks (New Classic), like the M.d.C.-Classic project "Vietnam Dreams" (can be found on all streaming portals) and currently also on Marc de Clarq's typical dance tracks, like "Blame it on the groove".
